I stood as a Green Party candidate in the local County Council Elections, in the division up the road from me. That didn't soak up too much time (apart from a bit of admin, and collecting signatures via door-knocking - always a pleasure! - you get to meet some interesting people), but mostly I was supporting our main targeted candidate: so: much letterbox-stuffing and leaflet-designing, etc over a week or two or so, culminating at the Election Count last Thurs wh/ went on til 2am. Kinda weirdly proud that Kid Kid Shirt went down with me 'cos she was interested in how all this 'democratic' shit works. And we got to ask Lord P Ashdown questions he clearly couldn't answer...
I didn't win, but that's not important. Don't think a Green stood in that area before.
Baby Steps, man.
But our group's gone straight into the General Election campaign, so: super-busy writing Press Releases and more leaflet stuff the last coupla days. Meetings and emails. It's hectic, but good. I feel like I'm doing... something.
Somewhere in the midst of all this, Wayne n I managed to play a blistering EUH! gig in Bristol w our pals Dust Trio and Hey Colossus. Maybe more on this later.... fuck, dammit, I needed some R n R, to blow out zee mental cobwebs and hang w friends old n new.
Today, I got the Histology report back from my last op: it was good - not cancer - I kinda knew it wasn't, but found myself exhaling loudly when I read that it was clean.
I went to see Fast and Furious 8 with my wife yesterday. It was GREAT. Empty cinema 2pm.
Some smart set-ups n conceits in there. *NO SPOILERS* Pretty fab for a tentpole movie. Always great to see Kurt Rsl - espesh in two biggest films this year. We drank coffee in my fave caff; ate ice-cream n malteasers. Laughed at Jason Statham's wankah lines. I love my wife.
Writing a new series for 2000AD. May surprise some people when it comes out. Can't talk about it quite yet, but on the home stretch w scripts/
Fuck, CURSED: FALL OF DEADWORLD is looking great. Dave's art... holy crap! Beautiful. Those characters are starting to come alive in all sorts of unexpected ways (thanks, Dave!). The Judge Fear ep, and the silent / no dialogue ep are out on the shelves, so I'm allowed to talk about them: soooo v lucky to work with someone like Dave who's so sympathico and 'gets' it every time. We have a handful of eps still to run on this - but super-happy w it, story n art-wise.
Listening non-stop this week to Tuning Out by Veryan Weston, Jon Rose and Hannah Marshall. Fantastic! Got to meet Veryan n Hannah a couple weeks ago when they played in a trio w Trevor Watts.
Will try'n write here a bit more, but it's BIZZY.
