Piano Concerto No. 1 is kinda *ooof* nutsoid. I like bits of this:
TWO) Marvel's new super multiversal cross-over event-book Secret Wars... the first Hickman-scripted issue is still on the shelves, and it's waaaaaaay better than any tent-pole comic has a right to be. Regulars will know I'm a fan of Hickman's best stuff. For what it's worth, I think he writes a terrific Fantastic Four (and their extended family / kids), and whenever he returns to the characters, his love for them shines through.
But, OMG, that scene towards the end of Secret Wars #1 was fucking heartbreaking. ("Get over it, Kek - they're! not! real!" / "It's just a comic!" / "They always b -- *stop spoiler!*) Sure, but you have to realise, norms, that I read my first FF comic when I was about 4 or 5 (No, really - I was a terrible child - a fucking monster - was tested and had a reading age of 15 at, like 7 or 8 or something...) - so you have to understand that Stan & Jack's run on the FF was, like, my generation's mythology - it's folklore.
I grew up with those characters. They're realer to me than you are, dear reader / remote IP--address.
An utterly masterful piece of writing by Hickman, 'hidden' away in an Event Comic.
And that scene with the Punisher - priceless.
