Ornstein's life (1892 (?) - 2002) is utterly fascinating. That he wrote some fairly radical-ish Modernist stuff like this as well as pieces as lyrical as "A Morning in the Woods" is ... well, he took a kicking from critics in both directions, and took it hard. One of the good guys, apparently. 70 odd years composing: that's an amazing thing in itself. That so much of his work is so good - and for different reasons - is another reason to celebrate him.
