Well, fuck that shit. I'm old and don't care if this makes me sound immature: I like Hoofus' work. I don't find it overly erratic or 'jokey' or lacking in depth or intent. And I don't care what that says about me. Music is allowed to be restless - isn't it? - it's supposed to be hestitant and heartfelt and uncertain. Things have to find their own path. To roughly carve their own eco-niche in this world. Tunes are allowed to change direction mid-trajectory. Disruption is GOOD. Collage is GOOD.
It is GOOD to question your own choices as an artist. To shift modes. To change your mind.
To end up somewhere else.
World, some of us do not exist to sit on your coffee-table. We create for our own reasons - some of them serious, some of them daft or arbitrary; all of them personal - we do not create in order to become a genre-tagged vanilla life-style accompaniment. We are not born middle-aged or middle-class, nor would we wish to stay there even if we were.
We are not hollow, smooth or completely predictable. And nor should we be.
Carry on doing what you do, Hoofus - or do something different. Or both at the same time.
I like it.
Don't let them put a price-tag on you. Or tell you that you're wrong.
I'm sure you don't need my fucking permission - or anyone else's - to be yourself. Keep doing what you do.
