"The Megyn Kelly incident was supposed to be an anomaly. An unfortunate one-off. A bit of (very public, embarrassing) bad luck. But in the six weeks since Facebook revamped its Trending system — and a hoax about the Fox News Channel star subsequently trended — the site has repeatedly promoted “news” stories that are actually works of fiction."
Step back for a moment: "news stories that are actually works of fiction" has been the meat-n-two-veg of newspapers for generations now, so y'gotta laugh when they call out their rivals. Post-Truth Information-Economy aside, one thing to bear in mind about algorithms picking news-stories, perhaps: I don't think the code is quite smart enough to pick stories via nuanced ideological slant.
Not yet, anyway.
