Some of my American acquaintances are now actively comparing the FBI to the STASI. I shouldn't laugh; these documents are basically inciting folk to shop their neighbours if they seem overly interested in phone or internet privacy issues, etc. Instructions to businesses telling them to be vigilant about people who might be buying chemicals to make explosives, fuel bombs, etc is fair enough, but some of their definitions of '"suspicious behaviour" are a bit, well, worrying.
I think it's only a matter of time before they probably make crypto illegal for private citizens or non-military / non-corporate - or, at the very least, 'flag' you if you're using it privately. "Well, why are you using it if you've got nothing to hide?" Track the slooow creep of paranoia, my friends.
Just realised: If you gut the centre of the phrase "Communities against Terrorism" you get "Communism". Man. that's like subliminal writing or something.
