Stumbled on this a couple days ago. Shouldn't laugh - because, well, it's not funny - but, yeah, y'see the thing about crowdfunded / crowdsourced / 'sharing'-economies is that phone-summoned 'crowds' contain a cross-section of humanity, and that psychopaths and the socially maladjusted are part of that cross-section. Do Uber vet their Drivers / Riders? Do bluejean millionaire shareconomy start-up ceos care whether they're enabling the next Zodiac or Travis Bickle - do they care about anything - long as they get their 25% of someone else's effort? Well, what do you think?
"A massive, $7.2 billion Army intelligence contract signed just 10 days ago underscores the central role to be played by the National Security Agency and its army of private contractors in the unfolding air war being carried out by the United States and its Gulf States allies against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
"INSCOM’s “global intelligence support” contract will place the contractors at the center of this fight. It was unveiled on Sept. 12 by the U.S. Army’s Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM), one of the largest military units that collects signals intelligence for the NSA.
"Under its terms, 21 companies, led by Booz Allen Hamilton, BAE Systems, Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman, will compete over the next five years to provide “fully integrated intelligence, security and information operations” in Afghanistan and “future contingency operations” around the world."
Well, gosh, y'don't say?
Pre-cursor / pre-cognitive / "previously on..."
Global Future is Go!
So, these turned up and I bled over mine - no, really; you couldn't make this shit up - but, no, no. no, not an act of petroterritorial resistance, but a paper-cut.
Actually a cardboard cut. Or maybe sellotape. It went everywhere.
When I'm dead you can sell it for £1000 on eBay, along with William Bennett's leather jacket.
Meanwhile, you can buy unbloodied copies here, and here.

"Pay No More Than £5" The (Privatised) Royal Mail we have no control over. Sorry.
Really nice set of photos by Dan for the Salvage event we put on at a secret Somerset location last year - a sort of intimate mini-festival for a 100 or so people, with music performances by ourselves, Kemper Norton, IX Tab, Ashley Paul and Hugh Metcalfe. There were indoors / outdoors sound and video installations, scrap sculptures, a feral café / bar; we even built a cinema with films programmed by the Arnofini. Golly. You'll never see the likes of that again...
Was 2-Headed Shark Attack before the point of Peak Shark, or was that Sharknado? I need a sharksploitation timeline or info-graphic or something. Sharknado 2 is out...
Used to listen to L a lot in my mid-ish-teens, and saw the Hillage Band play two or three times in mid / late-Seventies when I would bunk off from Punk Rock Duties. Recently repurchased a vinyl of this for a quid -- had forgotten how Zappa-esque and beautifully Mock Pomp the intro was to this track. Perfect soundtrack for an Indian Summer / early autumn voyage into the mysteries of Luna / Diana / Venus...
Interesting story / interesting response from ACE.
This needs to be seen in a couple of wider contexts - one of which is the way in which a Pressure-Apparatus / Bureaucracy of Fear (Lite) has been applied to a number of publically-funded bodies from the BBC downwards. Its another way that False Austerity can be used to apply political pressure to funded infrastructure / bodies. The other ... heh ... well, let's not go there today. Still, bullies can always count on the self-serving cowardice of the Management Class. Love how here, as in other instances, the LibDumbs try to / get to play 'Good Cop' against Tories 'Nasty Cop' thuggery; in this instance, it's good ol' 'you can trust me' Simon Hughes trying to position himself as The Reasonable Liberal. That whole "things would be soooo much more worse if we weren't sharing government with them" narrative is wearing very thin, unlike Danny Alexander's south-sagging triple chin. If you sit at the table and eat with the pigs, then that makes you a pig too.
"Potentially the new clause could not only prevent anyone connected with an NPO (National Portfolio Organisation) from speaking publicly about ACE decisions or policies, but it could also give the funding body the power to withdraw from arts activities that it initially agrees to fund, but which it subsequently judges to be too politically or socially sensitive."
Bloody love this; dug out a pile of old self-released SYR vinyls out over the weekend - this mid / late, non-Geffen / 'difficult' lode of SY is starting to sound like the real gen-u-ine shit. In the perfect place to re-dig this right now. The first few minutes of this jam sound more unselfconsciously / undeclared 'Kraut' than the half-zillion bands whose PR-handlers add the term to their boshed-out press-puffs - a glimpse of a band at the high of their powers. Subtly-nuanced, unhyped / underrated and gorgeously textured.
Love that there seems to be no YouTubes / Vimeos of this track on-line, only its A-side. Wish there was more, I dunno, musical blackholeism (but then you prob wouldn't read capsules like this if they didn't have vid / audio-clips riding shotgun, wouldja?).
